Labour & Birth Doula Services
Our labour & birth support services are available to expectant families in Toronto, Orangeville, Collingwood, Owen Sound, Barrie and Muskoka (and everywhere in between). We also offer Canada-wide and international birth doula services by request.
Why are our birth doula services different? We supplement our doula services with our Childbirth Education knowledge, training from The Farm (former home of Ina May Gaskin), Waterbirth training, and extensive experience in hospital birth, home birth, high-risk birth support, and waterbirth support.
All Birth Doula Packages include the following:
24/7 on-call in person labour & birth support from 38 weeks (or earlier) - access by phone 24/7 for questions in pre-labour and early labour
Presence of a trained Birth Doula to offer support in position changes, water submersion, yoga birth, mindfulness, massage, acupressure, music, hot/cold therapy, and more — during active labour (or when you need us!) until the golden hour (1-2 hours after birth)
We also offer extended postpartum doula support, whether you require support immediately after birth or in the weeks or months that follow!
Back-up doulas and secondary doulas have varying experience and are required to have a minimum level of training. We ensure all doulas have their infant CPR/first aid certificate and police record clearance.

“Having the experience of a doula at our home birth was hugely reassuring to us for starters; but far beyond that, Leah’s peaceful presence, confidence in my abilities, and relentless positivity lead us to have the medication-free homebirth of my dreams. Having her know-how, her experience, and her calm and loving presence there was really reassuring. I am proud of myself and my son for what we accomplished with [our doula’s] help.”
— Sarah Waggott (Thornbury mom)
“I was in 43 hours of labour and I don't think I would have done it without Leah's help and knowledge. She provided the utmost level of service and care even in the pre-labour stages.”
— Sasha Exeter (So Sasha, Toronto mom)

A typical birth doula package with us includes a prenatal home childbirth class, text/communications throughout, on-call availability from 38 weeks, in-person labour support, and a home visit after birth.
A birth doula aims to empower families through birth. They are privately trained birth-workers with a depth of knowledge and experience in compassionately supporting families.
The role of the birth doula is intimate and profound. From “holding space” to coaching through breath work, aiding in position changes, massaging or guiding the partner. Birth doulas all have their own niches, and ours is mindfulness. We also use music and water as therapeutic tools.
Specific duties vary with our virtual birth doula offerings. Guidance is still highly effective virtually.
Our in-person birth doula packages all come with the doula’s basic “doula kit”, which includes warm/cold compresses, a fan, massage oil/essential oils, a bluetooth speaker, rebozo scarf, and more. We offer birth pool and stool rentals as an add-on!

At Mindful Sprouts, we support all types of birth including: water birth, home birth, hospital birth (medicated or unmedicated), surgical birth, VBAC birth, HBAC birth, free birth, single or twins/multiples birth, planned cesarean, or otherwise.
Our specialty is birth from a mindfulness lens, which can be supportive to anyone, regardless of type of delivery.

A note on virtual support:
When it comes to birth, phone and text support is available from 38 weeks to answer questions. Throughout all stages of labour, the doula can virtually talk you through coping techniques, offer suggestions, and aid in informed decision-making when options/interventions are offered.

Most individuals/families choose to have a midwife or doctor/OBGYN as their medical provider throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Doulas supplement this care with non-medical support and guidance.
Doulas can also support freebirths (birth where no healthcare provider s present) within the scope of doula care. We may be of extra support to free-birthers wishing to have a mindful, waterbirth experience with a waterbirth trained doula!
